Overview of the SWA Mining Cable

Cable consisting of three soft copper conductors, with a semi-conductive screen over the conductor and individual thermoset ethylene propylene (EPR) insulation, extruded screen over the insulation, metallic screen based on copper tapes, with a bare conductor for grounding, fillers to give a circular section, joining tape, thermoplastic inner cover of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), galvanized steel wire armor with galvanized steel strap applied helically in an open helix, thermoplastic outer cover of polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

SWA type mine shaft cables are used as main feeders in fixed vertical installations in underground mine shafts.

Features of the SWA Mining Cable

Maximum operating voltage: 5,000, 8,000, and 15,000 V.
Insulation level: 100% and 133% (categories I and II, respectively).
Maximum operating temperature: 90°C.
Maximum emergency operating temperature: 130°C.
Maximum short-circuit operating temperature: 250°C.
The conductors are soft copper in compacted, concentric, class B stranded wire in sections ranging from 8.37 to 253.4 mm² (8 AWG to 500 kcmil).
The insulation is ethylene propylene (EPR).
The metallic shield consists of overlapping copper tapes applied helically. A ribbon or identification thread is placed beneath the tape.
Galvanized steel wire armor with galvanized steel strapping applied helically in an open helix over the wires.
Black thermoplastic polyvinyl chloride (PVC) inner and outer jackets, flame-retardant and sunlight-resistant.
Soft bare copper conductor for grounding.
